Getting to the PPG Paints Arena: Visitor Directions

Multiple major highways and urban routes provide straightforward access to the arena from all directions.

Driving From the North

You’ll take Interstate 279 South to exit 5A for Fort Duquesne Boulevard when approaching from the northern suburbs or Pittsburgh International Airport. The route leads directly into downtown Pittsburgh with clear signage directing you toward the arena. Allow extra travel time during rush hour or major events, as highway traffic can slow significantly.

Follow Fort Duquesne Boulevard east toward the arena, watching for parking garage entrances on your right. You can access various parking facilities without navigating complex downtown streets, minimizing wrong turns and confusion if you’re a first-time visitor.

Approaching From the East

Interstate 376 West from the eastern suburbs leads directly into downtown Pittsburgh. You’ll take the Boulevard of the Allies exit and follow the signs toward the arena’s parking facilities. This approach brings you through the heart of downtown, providing multiple parking options along your route.

The route passes several downtown hotels and landmarks that help orient you to the area. You’ll find the arena visible from various downtown vantage points, making navigation easier as you near your destination. Prepare for one-way streets.

Arriving From the South

You’ll cross the Smithfield Street Bridge or Birmingham Bridge when approaching from communities south of the city. These bridges lead directly into downtown with clear signage directing you toward Fifth Avenue. The approach showcases Pittsburgh’s dramatic topography and river confluences, so enjoy the scenery along the way.

You’ll follow the downtown streets to a parking facility at or near the venue, watching for one-way restrictions. Reference the arena as a navigation landmark on your GPS for turn-by-turn directions. The southern route typically involves less highway driving.

Traveling From the West

Interstate 376 East from the Pittsburgh International Airport provides direct access to downtown Pittsburgh and the arena. You’ll follow signs for the downtown exits and arena parking just as you approach the city. This route represents the most common approach for visitors arriving by air or from western Pennsylvania.

Plan for approximately 45 minutes of travel time from the airport during normal traffic conditions. The route follows the Ohio River before entering downtown tunnels and urban streets. The highways hug riverbanks and reveal dramatic city views as you approach.
